This past weekend was absolutely awesome. There is so much to talk about and so many photos, I took about 600 photos in the past 3 days! There are so many photos from each day of the weekend that I'll make this a few separate posts.
For the first post tonight, here are pictures from Friday afternoon and evening. Tracy, my friend from Siggraph, came to visit from LA and first I took her on a tour of Pixar. She really enjoyed it and after that we went into the City. We bought some chocolate at the Ghirardelli store and then went to sit down in Union Square. Soon after we arrived a homeless man came up to us and at first we felt like we didn't want to be bothered, but he was really nice and a really genuine old "poet", this is what he referred to himself as. He asked us where we were from, and made some funny comments about how it was funny that Tracy and I said we were "friends" and not boyfriend and girlfriend and he said some funny stuff about how we were young and after our weekend in the City we might want to be boyfriend and girlfriend, haha. He was really funny and said some hilarious stuff, he said Tracy should be careful because I have "eager green eyes" haha. :) We told him we were worried it was going to rain and he said his poetry "could stop the rain" - interestingly, when he started his poems it started to rain, and just when he finished the rain stopped and it didn't rain for the rest of the day, even though the weather report said it would be 100% chance of rain all day. When he was finished his reciting of poems, he said we could make a donation if we felt like it to help him find a place to stay in the evening. Tracy gave him a few dollars, but I didn't have cash on me - just the chocolate I had just bought at the Ghirardelli store. So I asked him if he would like a bar of chocolate and he said "What kind is it?!" I took it out of my bag and he was excited and surprised, "Ghirardelli chocolate?!" he said, "That's the best chocolate in the world!" So he seemed pretty happy about it and we said our goodbyes after getting some advice on "places in the city for young people to enjoy themselves." haha it was a pretty funny experience and really ended up turning out differently than we expected when we saw an old homeless man walking towards us.
Well after this we went to Chinatown, then across the City to Baker Beach and walked along there and then up the cliffs towards the Golden Gate bridge. Then we took a bus back to Chinatown through the Marina and North Beach and that was great. We met my friend Matt (aka Gattabet) at House of Nan King and got some awesome food as usual.
It was such an awesome start to the weekend. More details to come and lots more photos to come as well.
