I was 2 metres from Harry Shearer!!

Tonight was super cool, it was yet another unbelievable talk at the JCC, called "This is so NOT about The Simpsons (American Voyeurs)" with Harry Shearer and Judith Owen.

It was really funny, and the cooooooooooooolest part was:

1) I was in the FRONT ROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2) It roooooooooocked
and 3) For the first few minutes, Harry Shearer talked in a whole bunch of the voices that he does on The Simpsons: Kent Brockman, Mr. Burns, Smithers, Reverend Lovejoy, Ned Flanders and a few others. SOOOOOOOOOOO cool!!!!!!!

The name of the talk comes from the fact that Harry Shearer is quite tied to his immigrant European roots, and Judith Owen is from England. So they both feel like they are outsiders in America, looking in on all the craziness.

Yeah so that was totally amazing. The show was pretty interesting and (as the title said) had nothing to do with The Simpsons. :) It was pretty intense and political, a very tongue-in-cheek look at American society. Including a pretty hilarious/intense look at America's place in the world, the American attitude towards other countries, the "extreme" nature of America, and a whole bunch of political commentary/making fun of the current administration. It was definitely an interesting show, and I liked the format a lot as it was a lot different that the usual kind of "comedy show." There was some talking, mixed with singing and Judith Owen playing songs on a keyboard and Harry Shearer playing backup music on a Bass Guitar. Haha pretty cool. It alternated a lot between different styles of music and some video clips too. Quite a different concept for a comedy show, and the funniest part was that Harry Shearer's normal voice sounds so much like Kent Brockman. It's hilarious. He did some impersonations of Dan Rather and other news anchors too which was funny. Good stuff!!!!!

You gotta wonder though how they do this kind of show or what kind of reception they get in places in America other than here in majorly liberal San Francisco. It wasn't a total George Bush bashing session, though there were several tongue-in-cheek kind of jokes, and they did poke fun at the government quite a bit. But still, in a place that isn't as much of a Democrat-voting area, you'd wonder what the reception would be like.

Anyway, lots of fun.
