Driving up to the mountains

On my first day in Denver I got up early, had a really nice breakfast at the hotel and then met up with my tour guide for a full 12-hour day tour of Rocky Mountain National Park.

Rather than captioning every photo I'll just caption a few, and post the details of the tour from the tour website and then just let the photos speak for themselves.

Tour highlights:

  • Drive north through the beautiful city of Boulder on our way to Rocky Mountain National Park
  • Stop and explore the shops available in the mountain village of Estes Park
  • Observe herds of elk grazing on rich grasses in Moraine Park
  • Enjoy a wonderful picnic lunch while surrounded by mountain beauty
  • Stroll around Bear Lake , a cool mountain lake carved out and dammed by glaciers long ago
  • Travel 11 miles above timberline while reaching an elevation of 12,183 feet on Trail Ridge Road
  • Discover the fragile alpine tundra ecosystem at Forest Canyon Overlook.
  • Visit the 11,796-foot Alpine Visitors Center in conditions found at the Arctic Circle
  • Cross over the Continental Divide and see the start of the mighty Colorado River at Milner Pass
  • See deer, elk , and possibly moose as we exit the park via the glacier carved Kawuneeche Valley

Tasty breakfast!
